Eliana: Mommy, I think we should go to the special party.
Me: The special party?
Eliana: Yeah, it’s got balloons and a rocket ship and slides. And puppies and kitties. And all our friends.
Me: That sounds like a fun party!
Eliana: Yeah. And it’s got a drinking fountain and games and it’s a special party. But I can’t remember where it is.
Me: Oh no! How are we going to get there if you can’t remember where it is?
Eliana: Oh, I remember. You go across the street and go straight. Then you go south and you’re there! It’s just a quick drive.
(as we arrive home from daycare…)
Eliana: Sorry, mommy. I can’t play with you right now. I’ve got lots to do.
Me: Lots to do?
Eliana (making a dismissive hand gesture): Yeah. Like sort money. And stuff with tape. Lots of stuff to do.
Me: Oh. I thought we could maybe paint together if you wanted.
Eliana: It’s okay, mommy. I can play with you later when I’m done with my stuff.
Me: Umm, okay.
